About the Roaster

We order our coffee fresh roasted, meaning really fresh. Our beans are roasted after we order them. Before that, they are fresh. So 'fresh roasted' actually means 'fresh roasted'. Our roaster is awesome, he looks like he stepped out of an Indiana Jones film- hat and all. He actually knows the farmers he gets his coffee beans from. They are real people, living their lives half way around the world. With families. He gets his coffee beans from this group of impoverished people he actually knows and gives them more than fair trade prices for their high quality coffee beans. He has a relationship with the farmers and is good to them because he knows them. They're real people and he's a good guy. Besides being a good guy, he has a really cool hat and can totally pull it off. So here I am, actually pouring love and giving hope to a farmer and his family to beat poverty, from the comfort of my favorite mug. I am madly in love!

Our French roast is 100% peaberry coffee beans. In fact, this peaberry is so elongated that the farmers refer to it as a longberry. It maintains the same earthy flavor of Cameroon beans, being peaberry contributes a light spiciness not found in the regular beans. Cafe Passion is roasted to medium-dark, which brings out its heavy body and smooth finish.

Peaberry, also known as caracoli, is a type of coffee bean. Normally the fruit ("cherry") of the coffee plant contains two seeds ("beans") that develop with flattened facing sides, but sometimes only one of the two seeds is fertilized, and the single seed develops with nothing to flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as peaberry. Typically around 5% of all coffee beans harvested are of this form.
